Ok, I just got the Source SDK and are trying to learn how to map for Half-Life 2. Well, when I open Hammer Editor, everything is fine, except for the fact that there is no grid and whenever I create and object or place an entity, I can't see it. My viewports just stay black. Any help would be appreaciated (sp?)!

Well, I just downloaded Hammer yesterday, so I don't know how much help I can be.... :( When I get time I'll take a look and see if I can't help you solve your problem.

This is the basic tutorials for mapping for all of the Valve games.
There's a lot of hints and tips to make maps.

Also, the 3D view-port is black because you haven't given it eyes!

Thanks for the help but I have already looked at those links before.

Also, it's not just my 3D-Viewport that's black, it's every viewport! Everything worked fine the first time I opened Hammer, but now that I closed and re-opened it, I can't get my viewports back, there just black. There's no grid, and I can't place blocks, enitities, or anything else. I have also pressed Shift+R (Show Grid) multiple times and still nothing.

Have you tried reinstalling it?

Try reinstalling the editor, sometimes it gets screwed up and does shit like this to me too.
