It looks pretty fucking amazing, compared to the old version. Oh, and did I mention the game is completely moddable?

Developer Blog Entry:

As I mentioned in the previous news post, 0.2.5 will likely be the last SA-MP release. But we're not going out without a bang. What happens when you take the 0.1 player limit, add the 0.2 player limit, multiply by 3.3 recurring then divide by 2? That's right, you get a close approximation of 500 - which is the 0.2.5 player limit.

We have rewritten large portions of the SA-MP dedicated server and now the hard limits on players and vehicles comes down to server CPU and bandwidth.

In 0.2.5 we have taken advantage of this new server system and raised the vehicle limit to 2000 with virtually unlimited amount of vehicle models. This isn't just some theoretical limit either, we're working on a new script to replace lvdm which will cover all of San Andreas. The SA-MP beta team has been hard at work and have placed 2000 vehicles in these reusable lists.

Click the map for a plot of all 2000 vehicles. Each colour represents a reusable vehicle list.
http://www.sa-mp.com/media/025_vehicles.gif (http://www.sa-mp.com/media/025_vehicle_plot.png)

Here's most of the new things you'll see in SA-MP 0.2.5:

- New player limit 500 and vehicle limit 2000.
- Tick/sync rates can now be adjusted from the server along with the streaming radius.
- Up to 2 billion virtual worlds (all server controlled).
- The server maintains an accurate position of all vehicles, even when they're not being driven.
- Visible damage on vehicles is now synced.
- Many overall sync improvements including vehicle riding, lag compensation.
- Players can now have different fighting styles.
- Trains can now drive on both tracks and each carriage can have 5 passengers.
- Many new scripting functions added.
- All 0.2.2 scripts will be compatible with 0.2.5.
- Solved issues with TextDraws and Menus.

There was a vehicle audio problem in previous releases that caused vehicles driven by other players, usually helis and planes, to become silent. This has been fixed in 0.2.5 and adds greatly to the overall feel of the game.

We have never released a version of SA-MP without first testing any new limits or features. That means over the next few weeks we intend to have a public beta and populate San Andreas with 500 players. This will be a very unique event in online gaming. If you would like to participate, keep and eye on the sa-mp.com main page as we'll be announcing the details there before the public tests start.

And finally, we have put together a new video showing some of the improvements to syncing in 0.2.5:

4 gigs + Vista + All my programming stuff almost kills my 30 gig laptop hard drive. This game is really tempting me though.

Only 11 gigs left.

It seems that SAMP 0.2.5 has been canceled..

..but at least some people in the community are still trying to improve the game.

Also, the mod works with other games o_O

So far, FEAR, COD4, and Crysis work with it. Fear looks O_O with the mod. Looks like it has true hdr lighting.

posted on halomods awhile back, i think its a hacked version of that mod, for halo. It barely works for me though, you can edit the intensity of the bloom and such in the ini file.

Now only if someone could edit it to do more for halo.

I found it in a Facepunch thread (http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=507630). There are a lot of other things like this out there; this is the best, however.

Adding realism to any game.

Step 1: Add bloom.
Step 2: Add more bloom.
Step 3: Add HDR.
Step 4: Make anything that isn't already, brown.
Step 5: Make anything that can't be brown, grey.
Step 6. Add some more HDR.

ftfy

Also, with that graphics thing running on San Andreas, I get about 7 fps and it looks pretty much like what I described above. Wouldn't call it a quantum leap in graphics really. What isn't eye burning is too dark to see.
