I'm working on making a weather system. Rain/snow. And i'm making some progress thanks to another member but the problem is with the bitmap.
A sprite type bitmap is needed and i can't figure out how i'm supposed to create one. I keep getting an error when compiling.
Right now it looks like i have a bunch of small comets crashing on the ground and it looks like butt.
I'm just wondering if anyone else successfully made a working weather system of rain.

When you get finished with this may you make a tutorial? :) Thanks.

Okay it looks to me like not many people or nobody has this figured out.
Please check my progress and tell me what one is better.

Light Rain, Rain2 are the best. (whats up with the poor quality? But from the videos those are my choices) I like the progress so far.

The first thing I notice is the rain coming down in different directions, yes rain has some variation but it's extremely subtle and 99% of it should all be coming down on the same path.

It is a WIP type of thing. Its alot of trial and error. I"m drasticly changing settings and seeing what every one does. After the list is complete rain and snow will be easy.
You gotta admit, it does look decent so far.
I made some changes since those making the rain more opique and it looks better.

After kickstarting johnny i've spent some time on this myself, we took a different turn somewhere with very different results, i'll post one of my fabrications later as well.

Just got to tweak the rain, because right now it looks like its a bunch of random tears in your screen =/

Some rain: http://files.filefront.com/RTJ+rainyavi/;10038586;/fileinfo.html
Playing it in their player is pretty poor quality, downloading is a better option.
Some rain sound would be cool too...

Rain? Uhm no.
Make it green and it looks like the area has radioactively been diseased :v:

The rain aint final or something, at least it's a partially working weather system and the area is hardly lit so it's a bit too dark and undetailed.

I made some progress. I'll take a video clip when i get home. Its looking much more realistic. I'm trying to integrated vicky's rain with mine. I'm having a few issues but i'll work them out tonight. Maybe....

Nice. Is it realistic with sound?

You can give your opinion on the sound quality later. But yes there is sound and i think it sounds alright. And i think Vicky's rain looks good but needs to be tweaked. Thats why i'm trying to integrate both rain types togather. Its a pain in the arse.

wow johnny, that rain looks awesome. keep up the good work. i honestly like it how it is and i dont think you should tweak it. but i guess if you think it could be better, you should.
(im basing myself on the video you posted)
vicky your rain looks good to but there is too much of it

It looks better already, i'll let johnny go from here though. At least we can do stuff with the weathersystem like on lockout, that aint that hard to create.

I need to fix the background rain still but the close rain is pretty good.

Impressive, but will this lower my fps? My computer can barely get the game above 15 fps with the lowest details.

The weather systems animate in 2 differant ways. Plates as you seen in vicky's above causes less of a toll to the FPS. And the close range rain as seen in my first DL link, now that really messes with the FPS.
So what i'm trying to do now is find the happy median. Also i need to adjust the plates alot still.

Vicky, Is that a Battlefield 2 Map I see? Also the rain is a little much but its a good start.

Super & Nice. I hope when someone finds the "perfect" rain for each type of map there will be a tutorial series.
Edit: Its Jalalabad?

yup
And, don't expect a full explaining tutorial.. i think it's one of the fun parts of the hek, let people fiddle around with it themselfs so they come up with flying monkeys all over the place while they were actually trying to make some fluffy snow weathersystem...
So, pointer 1... create a weather-system using korns guerilla.
johnnyblaz20

Yeah, Korn's guerilla does alot more than make shaders. I think 90% of it is unexplored.
Also I don't want to pre-fabricate a bunch of rain tags to accommodate your mood but I am making a list for my reference on how the settings effect the rain. Maybe i'll just give that out.
That might be a while though you'd be better off fiddling with it yourself.

I am just curious of the weather system. I have messed with it and I have gotten a sandstorm more than rain :)

The first set of settings on a weather system tag are separate rain drop type rain shown in my video above but it really puts a toll on the fps.
The second type of rain shown in vicky's video is created with the plate settings.
That is more of a massive rain type and i don't think it messes with the fps nearly as much, but in my opinion it does not look as good in its own respect.
I came to the conclusion that the first type of rain is for close contact and the plate type is for background. Mine is looking pretty sweet.
The settings are not too hard to figure out from there. Trial and error.

Just mess with the settings and bitmaps to get it better.
