If you drop this new Strings.dll into your HaloCE root directory and replace the old one, you should see a new message of the day when you go to the HaloCE lobby. If this becomes used enough I think it would be awesome to frequently update the message of the day with useful information and announcements.
Special thanks to Timo for changing the URL in the dll.

I don't see why it wouldn't, but will this work with any UI?

Would it be possible to make the message of the day display text from a webpage? Because that would be an excellent way to change the message without having to download a whole new strings.dll file thingy.

That's what this does. It gets the text from:
http://www.h2vista.net/motd/haloce_motd.txt
And yes, it will work with any UI.

is this "vista compatable"?

Do you mean H2Vista or Windows Vista? If it's H2Vista, we'll have to wait for the game. If it's Windows Vista, then yes, I would assume it is, since the game engine for Halo is no different than the one for any other version of Windows.

You don't have to download a new Strings.dll every time there is an update, it reads this:
http://www.h2vista.net/motd/haloce_motd.txt
All you have to do to update the MOTD is upload a new version of that text file.

what i mean is that due to directx 10, there was an emergency "update" that changed some things in the .exe and the strings.dll files. Basically I'm asking if you used the new strings.dll or the patch strings.dll
Dur! No I'm not asking if it is H2V compatable...

I'm using Windows Vista if that answers your question.

yep:
Windows Vista (TM) Compatibility
This page provides current information about compatibility fixes for Halo PC running on Windows Vista.
Issue 1:
The current version of Halo PC, version 1.07 (Build 613), incorrectly reports that it is not compatible with the version of DirectX included in Windows Vista. The following fix removes this check; there are no other changes.
Halo PC 1.071 (Build 614) (http://www.bungie.net/games/halopc/halopc1.07-0614.exe)
Download and run this patch file, which updates any previously released build of Halo PC to 1.071 (Build 614). Note that the 614 build number is only visible in the properties of the EXE file; in the game's Settings menu, it will continue to report build 613 so that you can continue to play online with players and servers who have the pre-Vista build.
Halo Custom Edition 1.07 (Build 614) (http://www.bungie.net/games/halopc/haloce1.07-0614.zip)
For users running Halo Custom Edition (Halo CE), a full patch is in the works. In the mean time, please make sure you are first patched to the standard 1.07 build, and then unzip these two files into your game directory, typically C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\ . This patch is provided for convenience only, and (like the rest of Halo CE) is not officially supported.

Just Vista, since it's the only one with the new version of DirectX. Unless Microsoft decides to release it for XP too. As for CE, we'll have to wait and see.

the vista patch does work for xp, but whats the point of having that patch on xp if your xp isnt vista? my XP and my Vista both use the same exe, ftw!

Halo is Bungie's game after all, and Bungie is owned by Microsoft. Who happens to make Windows Vista. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at.

I'm working on a list of all websites with MotDs on Halomods.com (link (http://forums.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=55269))
On a side note, I actually messed with this a while back with my old site (<3 VC++'s resource editor) Never thought it would be very useful though. I'm going to try and write a php script that will return listings for a bunch of different sites.

It just seems stupid that Gearbox did the port, and yet while they've offered no support for any part of it WHATSOEVER since the last update, now Bungie does something that big (who've never shown themselves to give a rat's ass about the PC before).

Hey, nice post over at halomods. Maybe you should also post a screenshot and a description of how to install it so people who are unaware will understand.
