Lately I've been trying to study Forerunner architecture and model it so here's a WIP of a base I will probably try and incorporate into a level if I get the time.

Hmmm, unless it's actually embedded into the side of a cliff, that upper part is WAYY to big for the lower part... If you notice, forerunner structures have HUGE support bases in comparison to their towers... Look at danger canyon for example. other than that, it's AMAZING. Good job.

Looks decent. I'd keep at it though.

I reall dont like how the base is smaller than the thing its holding, just looks wrong to me, but thats personal preference, and the reason my forerunner stuff usually isnt really tall.
However what I definitely dont like are the curvy things connecting the base to the tower. I also think you could do something more with the back part, instead of how its just straight as is, looks pretty boring.
Id say you have grasped the basic technique of forerunner design, but there are just some parts that look wrong, either way I guess its a good start.
Try making the base larger, it would look a bit better in my opinion like that.

I think the top part is far too disproportionate to the bottom. But it is looking good anyways

Pretty much it. Keep at it. Man, this feedback hasn't really helped at all.

I added another level to the lower part of the base and I think it looks better.

I really dont like the curvy things linking the top to the middle section.
Look at stuff in the campaign. Or look at Massacre's, Il duce's and my forerunner stuff, to get a better idea of what forerunner things should look like. Try to stay away from things that look distinctly not forerunner.
And do something about the flat back end.

Sorry Selentic, but in my personal opinion, I really like the curvy back part. I did add an extra basement room that leads to the flat part on the lower of the 2 levels as well I started working on the landscape around it. I love working fast.

Personally I like it alot. I see nothing wrong with it. I dont like that there are rules to what something should look like....but I guess if you say a "forerunner" structure, there will be claims of innaccuracy. Good none the less.

I still think that top "chunk" looks really awkward.

Oh, I wasnt talking about those, but now seeing them from a differnt view they look fine, I didnt know they were hollow underneath.
Anyway, make a more interesting door shape, and doors look REALLY good if theyre an interesting shape, and you can chamfer them, so make it so thats a possibility.
Something about the tower I dont like, but I cant put my finger on it :/
Otherwise looks great, but the base is really boring right now, add some interesting pillars in, along the walls, to make it more interesting.

Can you define or circle "chunk" and how is it's awkward? I don't really get it.

I think hes referring to the tower part, I agree with him, there is something odd about it that doesnt look right.

I think I fixed it. The very top of the tower looked a bit thick so I reduced it a bit, and added a bit of detail but keeping in mind, this is going to be CE so I want to keep the detail down...

UPDATE:
This is a preview of what the terrain will look like. The center is going to be a crazily eroded lake. You'll see...

You and me have modeled very little forerunner structures. The only one I would say in the community that does a lot of forerunner is Mass. But he gets most of his inspiration from H3 and expands on it and cuts parts out and puts things back together in a different way.(Mass is fucking win)
The thing that I believe is making the structure awkward would be that the top has the feeling of being a solid chunk of metal. While the bottom has more of the light and hallow feelign with the doors and such. What I dislike is that back piece on the top that sticks out. What were you thinking when you modeled that part? Looks like some inset extrude look to the top part. Doesn't seem to have much unique shapes. Other wise I like it and definatly inspired by valhalla or Infinity bases.

I really hate the thing that juts back at the top like a greaser's hairdo. Asside from that, it looks meh, something in the proportions is making it somehow without movement or balance. it lacks a focal point and doesn't draw the eye anywhere. Think about it artistically and feel for where it's lacking.

Better? I do like it. I think the top was unstylistic of the forerunners as well as distracted from the beauty of the base itself.

The base is still uninteresting, boolean in some pillars and stuff to add more variations instead of a boring line like that, and the door shape is still :(

Work on the structure more before you start on terrain. The structure still looks a little plain.

If that doesn't look Haloish to you, I would encourage you to go play the game.

In this case, since he did not construct it with the pillar details, that would be the easiest most productive method of placing the details into the walls, unless he wants to reconstruct them completely.

It's not badly done.... but that looks like it would topple right over at the slightest provocation. Unless the forerunner use magical unbreakable metal, you might want some form of supports on that thing.

With proper shoring Im sure that it could support itself.
