Nothing looks too horrible. I'll let people like Snaf pick out the details. It's a good model. With a good skin, it'll look even... gooder.

Isn't this the sort of thing that goes in studio?

All your crit is in your reference picture, it looks nothing like it so something is wrong.

Most of the general shape looks wrong, especially the front sight (not sure what it is called). It also looks like you didn't do a very good job modeling the rail system. The magazine looks a little too bent in one spot, but it might be the angle (but I'd still take a look at that). There is a weird face/nonplanar on the handle, and the handle seems a little straight as well (not sure about your tri limit though, it might not matter). The receiver (assuming I know what I'm talking about) looks generally wrong to me as well. You should find a lot more reference pics, and try and find some from some different angles and perspectives.
There are more things that look inaccurate, but I don't want to make myself look like an idiot (unless I already have :\) trying to point them out, since I really only know the core parts of a gun (by name, that is).

Looks a little blocky

April 24th, 2008, 06:43 PM
There's also no ejection button or firing mode switch. Non planars are always nice and there stock is wrong http://www.airsoftshop.com/images/IMG_4118.JPG

I can't say I totally believe this is yours, even if it is inaccurate. If you can at least do this, why did that tutorial you made look so terrible?

April 24th, 2008, 06:51 PM
yeah
1: the Clip is a lil messed up.
2: the butt is also messed up, planning to e-do.
3: sorry i didn' know there was a studio thread...:D
@ llamamaster, i can assure you i made this M4.. i'm good at making weapons... but i kinda suck at making BSP's so.... thats why :)

To me its out of proportion, the but/stock isn't shaped like some oval thing its actually circular. The grip is massive compared to the gun itself, the barrel is fat and modeled wrong, and the front sights are in the wrong place. keep trying and follow the ref better.

AHHHHHHH!
Terrible execution. Looks nothing like the m4. Find better + more reference pictures and start over.

No you're not. Can you look at this and your past work and honestly say you're good at making weapons? In fact, your models are terrible.

You have nothing to add to it. Starting over is the best way to fix what you have created. If you started off wrong, 90% of the time you're going to end wrong

His crit was hardly accurate though, it was more congratulatory than anything. He says it looks ok, in which case, he's totally ignoring the fact that your model is completely inaccurate to the reference. All he's done is shine you on and reinforce bad modeling habits.

Yeah... no.
Either start using the crit you're given - ALL OF IT - or pack up and go somewhere else. You won't last a month here otherwise.

I said it looks "ok" to keep his hopes up, then I told him what to improve on which is the accuracy...
Lets forget that topic and continue to tell him how to improve it.
You need to make sure yo model the weapon accurate, you have got alot of parts which as not the right size.

Your suppose to use 2 models one creates a wirefrme and the other is the model so you see a model with a wireframe on it

Are you stupid? Those pollys are wasted. You don't need them. Ex: Tesselating the ground for flat terrain.

Holy Christ get the fuck out.
Seriously, learn to model decently and don't come back until you have. You can start by actually fucking listening to people when they tell you how not to suck, rather than making up childish excuses or ignoring them.

the only high poly part of your model is the flash hider everything else is way lower poly and inaccurate. I think you're modeling for attention, not to hone a skill. Your attitude towards critique is shameful.
rossmum
April 27th, 2008, 01:53 PM
Basically, either find something you don't suck at, or actually learn to model properly.

Roostervier

Still, the barrel is the only thing that has that many tris. It's pointless and a waste, as it is already inaccurate. Quit making excuses and just start over already.

DON'T MAKE A WIRE FRAME LIKE THAT!
I hate it when people do that. Follow that tutorial which WoL gave you.
And that above comments are true, the only part which is high poly is the muzzle part. (What ever its called :p)
You could easily achieve the same effect with smoothing. and a
lot less polygons. e.g:

Edit: Btw, I wrote this post before you reply'ed paintallkid...

What's the difference? That hard edge at the profile of the mesh.
not a low poly model...
He'd be better off using curves with that high-poly of a mesh.
