I do that on purpose. I only use 1024 x 786 when I'm converting video files, otherwise the text looks too small to me. Even though my video card allows for much higher then the one setting I'm using.

Could be using Parallels or CrossOver. CrossOver lets you run Windows apps natively on intel macs in OSX. Currently in public beta, though. Some stuff isn't supported, like BF2.

EDIT: whoa, not in beta anymore. Still can't play BF2, though.

I was wondering, a good chunk of you have some cool themes. How do you get them on there without a crap load of adware/spyware? I have tried several programs and I still have not found a good free one. I'm getting tired of Windows XP Silver theme.

There are 3 ways to make the look of your desktop uber l33t:
- use windowsblinds
- use styleXP
- use visual styles only

The first two are programs, which you use to apply themes, but they're not good, because they have spyware and lots of bugs.
Visual styles on the other hand do not require any kind of program. You just put the downloaded files in your C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes folder and after that you go back to your desktop, right click with your mouse on it and select appearance. Then you just select the added theme under Windows and buttons, tweak it a little bit under Color scheme if the theme has some additional options and apply it and then you have a spyware and bug free pimped desktop.:)
And search for visual styles if you want to download them.
EDIT: Windowsblinds and styleXP themes are not the same as visual styles.

It's a 360 degree FOV. And atticus if you really want to know, it's actually a multiply overlay, a screen overlay, a high pass, a soft light overlay, and then adjusted levels.

Gj Timo. I prefer to run at the highest resolution and use the FOV hack to do mine. The way you do it takes much longer, but doesn't give you a warped to hell image on the sides either.

I liked this view of Serenity. I captured it directly off the DVD which accounts for the low quality. Still, I think it looks pretty. By the way, I agree that the desktop should have only a few icons and overall be pretty clean.

Cleaned a few things up on my Vista desktop, using my same old wallpaper, only with my Pandemic friends list floating on top of my tree. Definitely two of my greatest creations stuck together, with another in the taskbar visible only by name...

The Chip n' Dale is an old game I remember getting out of a cereal box one time. Since it's nostalgic, I downloaded it one day to play just to re-live some old memories. Big deal. You'd do it too.

As for neopets, the game was made for college students who couldn't have pets in their dorms and younger kids joined it. It's meant for adults, but the majority there are kids. So I'm perfectly within right of playing it, being a college student. It's a decent time waster. Just about as much of a time waster as Halo is... OH, snap. :p

@Timo: Does Vista let you set different wallpapers for your two monitors? The only way I could figure to do it in XP was to set my wallpaper as a webpage with an element floated over to the right.

Edit edit: I don't want to make a new post at the risk of derailing this thread, so I'll just say ot that space is just unimaginably big and empty and so people almost always misperceive and misrepresent dimensions and locations of objects in space, which is just fine. That picture is still way way WAY cool, but I mean, come on, that ring is just ridiculously close to whatever surface the point of view rests on. But then, that's because I assume it's a planet, but it's a safe assumption, I think. It's a gorgeous picture, it's just the dimensions are... wrong. The sun is either extremely large or extremely close, and so is the ring. But for the sake of the pic, I'm willing to just throw away my argument and suspend disbelief so I can appreciate it. Pretty. =)

EDIT: One really cool thing one of my friends from college did was create a background and move the icons around to incorporate them into the image. One that I remember was a person holding a surfboard, and the icons silhouetting the surfboard and person. He changed his desktop daily.
