Reading Matt's page, it seems that votes weren't the only thing that decided who got into the finals. The judges had the final say, and they thought he "hadn't shown his skills in the best possible light"

(I use the term "everyone" loosely and more as a focus on the speed soloists who don't know anything about music.)

If I were to describe it as if the music was an image, here is the difference between everyone else, and Matt and Muris:

All I heard from everyone else was like 4+ minutes of bottom of the neck :words:, just constant high pitched solos, which create zero contrast, have barely any change in tone colour and are to say it bluntly, fucking bland, generic and uninteresting. It pretty well screams that they learned the guitar, rather than bonded with it.


However, Matt and Muris, it's the exact opposite. Low end notes and progressive riffs, with good harmony and great contrast in not only melody but tone. The high end stuff is contrasted with low end stuff, and it isn't just a shitstorm of noise and "DURF I CAN PLAY FAST CAUSE SPEED IS WHAT MATTERS NOT STRUCTURE OR DYNAMICS HURHURHURHURHURHURHUR" and so on and so forth.

tl;dr version

Guitar -douchebag-bandwagon-speed-soloists-who-play-nothing-but-bottom-neck need to die in a industrial sized freezer, eating their legs.
