Building a new Dell Inspiron 537s
This is the computer
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...=DDCWRA1&s=dhs
Its starting price is $249 and/or $15 a month.
If you want you can build it the way I have below to see what its got and whatnot or whatever...
Here is how I want the system:
- Black colored (not going to pay $20 just for a case color)
- Intel® Pentium® dual-core E5400 (2MB L2, 2.7GHz, 800FSB)
- Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
- Microsoft® Works 9 (already have 2007)
- 1Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty, InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis- Important Information
- McAfee SecurityCenter, 30-Day Trial
- No Monitor (already have a TV/HDTV/PC 19 inch widescreen monitor)
- 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz- 2 DIMMs (current computer is 1GB and I don't need that much RAM)
- 320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™ (If I could, I could go lower... What would I do with 320GB? no, not porn)
- 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
- ATI Radeon HD 4670 1GB (not with the computer but I might be getting it from newegg for $74)
- No Speaker Option (got one)
- Dell Consumer Entry USB Keyboard and Mouse (sure, why not? It's free :D)
- No Floppy Drive or Media Card Reader Included (nah)
- No wireless card (got a NETGEAR WG311v3 it's fine)
- No Modem Option (ew, dial-up)
- No 1394a High Speed AV Port (idk what that is)
From there out, I don't want movies or routers or on-call plans or whatever. Comes out to be $319 still for $15/month. Then $319 + $74 ($393 if you suck at math) for the graphics I might buy.
That computer build is 50% better than mine right now. My current crappy computer I'm using is a Dimension 3100. Right now my computer has a total of 74GB (26.6GB used), 1GB RAM, No CD write/rip, No DVD read/write/rip, Intergraded graphics (nVidia 6200 just got fried), Windows 7 RC (still? I know...), only 6 USB ports (need more).
I might get this in maybe a couple months, or maybe not... I'll see how this goes...
Re: Building a new Dell Inspiron 537s
Cool story?
Did you just need to tell someone to make yourself feel better about it?
Re: Building a new Dell Inspiron 537s
Um, no...
What I really meant to ask is it a good computer or not.
Some other people do the same thing, I can't?
Thats a cool story right there :realsmug:

Screw that computer. You are only going to regret it.
Besides, how do you know the gfx card is going to fit in there?
Save up some more money and buy something better.

Why would I regret it? My current computer sucks really bad and probably the most important thing I have in this computer is Halo CE and all my maps (I can use a flash drive for those).
If the computer can take a similar card (ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB), why wouldn't it take the ATI Radeon HD 4670 1GB?
What money? Plus I can't get anything over $400.

If you're familiar with newegg buy the parts and build it from there, fuck dell. :/

ftfy.
If you really want a cheap but powerfull computer get a second parts or something but don't waste money on dell or HP or other rip off's like them.
Re: Building a new Dell Inspiron 537s
That processor is an ancient piece of shit. It's a Pentium. Don't let the "dual core" fool you. You need at least a Core 2 Duo.
You're really best off bargain hunting any leftover Black Friday deals to build your own computer.

Yes. Also we have a topic stickied at the top of this forum for this sort of discussion.
