I think it'll do fine. It's a different direction than the original comic.

This is of course a chief concern. The appeal of it becomes less for the series itself, and more of "do me, do me!" And if that's the case, I'd rather introduce some standing site mascots in order to prevent the onslaught of caricature requests.

I say go for it, make a comic or two and see how it goes :P I'd like to see what you'd do with it :P

I would totally read that comic regardless if I'm in it. I just want to be.

You could, of course, plan ahead, set some rules for who gets in, and then prepare to put everyone that fits into that category into at least one strip. Or you could always outsource the comic to the forum and let us help.

If you guys want, I'll do up a few, see how it goes, and let the community judge from there. The idea of community collaboration also intrigues.
@ Llama: Go for it.

Therein lies a major problem. I don't think it's possible to have an accurate set of "mascots" for a site like ours without everyone clamoring to be included. I suppose you could just take site staff and the most active users, but already that's a huge cast to maintain... there's also not so much to be had in the realm of jokes imo. Agay's comic was "heh, what if the CONSPIRACY was REALLY A CONSPIRACY?" and the jokes got progressively more stale as it went on. In something like this, I think we could only laugh at, say - caricatured Ghost not caring about the site or caricatured Robert Graham coming back as an alt or caricatured Teh Lag talking about Touhou or caricatured Timo lining everyone up for pictures - a few times before those get old as well. And then once we've dried up inside-joke references, we're moving into nonsensical humor that really has nothing to do with the site at all.
Maybe I'm just a killjoy though... I get a mildly pretentious vibe from a community as small as ourselves turning itself into a "heh look at us and how totally zany we all are"-type webcomic.
