Ok it should work now.
It was happening to me to, I just put my network settings in game to my actual network port, restarted and presto, it worked.

Yeah I don't know what he's talking about, but I don't have the problem anymore, except if I'm not mistaken, there is a shortage in the servers for some reason.
There was a problem with the Games for Windows Live servers last night... So you hit this problem right when you couldn't login anyway.
Regarding the updates, at this point there are two updates for you to get:
1) The latest LIVE update (which includes the past two live updates)
2) The latest GAME update.
Both can be found on the official Halo2Vista website. http://www.microsoft.com/games/halo2/

Well it does not matter anymore but i was talking about the network settings in game. But maybe it was just a coincidence that i did that around the time live was back up? Oh well.
