new shots, enjoy. I'm hoping to have all the buildings modeled by friday, by saturday ill get all the gameplay elements functioning correctly--and by sunday and beyond ill tweak with lighting and portals. There's a lot less popping of geometry--it'll hopefully go away with portals--but its looking better and better.
left to do:
- lower height of curbs
- fix slide in bases
- finish corner buildings
- finish highway entrance geometry
- remove rails on parking structures
- model middle buildings
- remodel one of the base-side buildings
- add lights
- fix exact portals
- add portals

Also, maybe use those teleporter shaders from h2ce? Those animated shield-like ones.

It looks like you've got some sort of semi-transparent collision geometry here or something-
whatever it is, my first reaction was that it was fog, and I liked it. If you were to add a bunch of wires and telephone poles and signs and other crap cluttering up the area directly above the roads and then gave it thick haze like that, well fuck I just realized it wouldn't look very much at all like NMC but it would still be fucking awesome.

I don't know about you nvidia fags, but you can force anisotropy through the Catalyst drivers. When I tried it, I got massive artifacts everywhere, but I guess that could have been because I had a not too powerful radeon x1600 then :\
You can force AF, not AA.
Anistropic Filtering? I am stupid and I dont even know what that is but am I right? If so, what does it do? My 64 emulator has it.
I would say it basically enhances the quality of textures over distance, also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anisotropic_filtering

If you use anisotropic filtering on a map like Bloodgulch, you will easily see the difference.

I am 17--turning 18 in november. I've been modelling since 2001, or 02. I forget.
I'm currently mulling over the idea of throwing on some knifes, ammopacks, etc onto the model as detail--i could make it a random permutation. But then again, i dont want more work with making LOD's.

I took a bit of chunks from the original model for the upperarm, and rehauled it. Still looks good.
Balls. I see this coming out great.
The first set of renders looked fugly to me, tbqh. The smoothing was all wrong. The legs look much better in this render. I still don't understand the odd circle shapes on his thighs, though. Srsly, what's the deal with those? Also, MC still suffers from plastic diaper syndrome. I know it'd be really hard to stick to the original model while avoiding that issue, but I think you should see what you can do to reduce the appearance of a solid piece of plastic molded to his ass.
Also his hips are all wrong- the crotch especially. These are all problems the original H1 MC model had, which is sort of why I'm pointing them out- it would be kind of nice to have them fixed instead of leaving them in there.
But all that said, you are an excellent biped modeler. For all its shortcomings, that is a quite good biped. Please at least consider my crit instead of dismissing it out of hand like you always do.
Rob, the reason i set the smoothing like that in the first was because you do it like that when you set up a model for normal maps.

Biped looking amazing, apart from the groin armer seems a bit to... bulky or sticking out to much.. and the but armer seems weird..
And imo he would look better a tad taller.
The shotgun stock or whatever you call the thing at the back also looks weird, and not in the same style of the weapon. But other than that they both look awesome.

Oh yeah, and the back of the bipeds head seems a bit to reviled. Maybe add some more armer?

No, not making him taller--would mess with the system. Making the chest piece bigger affected all of it, making him look thicker.
does anybody have any ideas for the stock? And i dunno what you're talking about with the magazine bevels being totally out of place, they look fine.
Could you add some armer to the back of the head? I am sure it would look better.. worth a try.

I like the front of that. Maybe try to make the back more like the normal H1 shotgun while matching it with this?
The front of the shotgun and stuff looks really nice, but the back looks really weird.
Looks like MC gained some weight. Also, well, drat, now he has a realistic codpiece and it just looks... weird. Hm. For the most part it looks good, but it looks like it still needs some minor tweaks here and there.
Ok, now UV map MC, make a hi res out of him using max and mudbox (max for armour, mudbox for organics) and make a sexy sexy sexy Mark V possible
for the armor, i'll start it off by getting all the metal smoothed out and correctly formed, and then ill take the metal into mudbox and add badass scrapes and shit, and the people will rejoice
(plus it'll be good for my portfolio)
also, when i have time, ill redo the shottie stock more like the h1 stock. THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN, AND WOL HATH RESPONDETH..

Nope, i won't be making the packs wobble as he walks or anything. I have to keep the model to the original rig so i can re-use animations. Though, i DO plan on compiling some new death animation that would make use of some pre-rendered havoc collision.

Also, I didn't think the weapons were going this far....I would love to see you reinvent the covie weapons. Expecially the needler....make it more ferocious looking.
Plasma doesn't seem that ferocious in any of the halo's... more like a cumshot.

I agree about the Needler though, make it look badass and give it some awesome sounds so maybe people will pick it up once in a while :O
Also I know you said you didn't want to change gameplay... but for netcode's sake you might want to change the Needler so it's actually useful :\
Nicer looking needles would be good, don't know how though... maybe hear it go into the flesh? Might make it more, scary. Lol.
Some pink smoke being emitted from the loaded needles might make it nicer.
Most of the covenant weapons are just perfect the way they are, namely the plasma pistol and rifle--ill update the shaders to match everything though. The needler though, i understand the conflict. Its pretty odd looking, ill sex it up later.
I really think the plasma weapons need better sounds and also they need to be stronger.
not editing the gameplay, keeping the sounds. Well, maybe keeping the sounds. until i find a distinctly better yet similar sound.
