I get a constant 60 fps, and I've got VSYNC on. I think anyone with an okay video card would be fine.

AR sounds like an airsoft gun lol.
I like the AR sounds and I have no clue as to why. Is that map just a circular tube? Either way those shaders are nice.

AR model looks like one of H3MT's many AR's, which is bad. The muzzle flash could use less suck. At the moment, it looks as if you just cut it out of a picture. The skin for the AR is really grainy and looks like stone, and the sound is :gonk:, as mentioned. Shaders look pretty good so far, would be nice if we could see the actual texture for the cave walls though. Those look more interesting. :)

Not bad. I have to say, I'm loving the rocks, although in some places the extreme angle on the skin makes it look rather odd, the fact that the texture represents depth that the eye expects to see at that angle. Now sure what you can do about that, though, aside from maybe height-mapping the model to match the contours of the rocks in the texture a bit more, but that doesn't really sound like a good idea. Anyway, it's pretty inspirational.
Looks great, except for that AR fire effect. If you'd like me to teach you how to manipulat them properly you have my contact info.
AR effects and sounds kick ass.
I'd rather not learn from a guy that evidently just uses the same sprites over and over again but changes various sizes and colors ;)
The firing sprites were done in literally 5 mins of photoshop work. They were created as a primer so i could create real ones. I dunno though, i really like the jagged look to em.
I tried the matching of contours, it just looked repetitive as the geometry would keep repeating.
Here's a little extra for you other peeps, this is how i create bumps for more complicated things that i can't paint by hand:

Hey man, I'm just offering you an olive branch, if you don't want it there's no need to joke or troll about it. A simple "no thank you, I think I understand them pretty well" would suffice. I compliment your work all the time, but I can't even remember the last time you had a kind word towards me. I offered my help, because I remember the struggle you had with the SPV1 particles, and haven't seen anything from you on that end since. I thought it be a nice gesture for whatever "wrongs" I have done onto you in the past, but obviously you're not ready to make amends.

Masters, it's just how i am, and it's how i've always been. I have always joked. As i recall with spv1, you just didn't like my particles. Instead you replaced them with colorful flames, oh well.
You complement my work all the time, thanks...but you don't have any 'work' persay to complement. I don't like the unorganized and rudimentary way you do things. I don't like your particles, nor your UI, nor your simple textures, and the fact that after so many years you seem to have no dedication to become proficient in an art package (photoshop, max, maya, etc) just makes it a huge turnoff. I have no grudge, masters. I just dislike you for being you :)

Maybe tomorrow i'll post shots of the textures i'm working on for the new bloodgulch, if time allows. I'm taking a break from the megapainintheass that is new mombassa to do a smaller, more organic level. I plan to just take the original terrain, tesellate it to about 100k tri, drop it into mudbox, and sculpt the cliffs etc. I'll then optimize it. I think i'll ask mass to do the bases since i remember him wanting to do some forerunner stuff, and he's good at it so what the hell. When its all done, the new bloodgulch should run about 70k-80k tri.
ar looks plain because heh, it doesn't have textures.
Oh okay. I figured. thought there might have been placeholders on it though, because I can actually make out some of the detail.

Edit: I like the muzzle flash but I think it needs to be a bit smaller. Or maybe add a bit of blue bits in it, I think it would make it look better, and the AR is gas powered isnt it?
I'd say fool around with the color and see what happens. The CAR from Unreal 2 was gas-powered and had blue muzzle flash. It looked bad-ass.

Hopfully I can keep it around 4K instead of 6K. And the cylinder under it still needs attaching and sealing to the main part. Roughly about 35-40% complete.

Oh. Well, imo, having them exposed like that looks ridiculous. :| Try applying some weapons knowledge to the design. All this whole thing is so far is just a repetition of cylinders.

Snaf has a great point. What you've done so far is just upres the old model without taking the chance to make it 'work right'. Take for example my shotgun, i added things to make it more visually interesting, and correct. Do the same for the rocket launcher.

Ive got afew creative ideas. But it would probably mean a full re design of the rocket launcher... would that be okay? It would still be held head height.

I did this quickly, just a simple reload, not finished. And bare in mind I suck at animating...
Basicly the master cheif pushes the rocket into the clamps. Then the clamps take the rocket into the chamber and let it go or something, then the holes are covered. Simple and shit idea...

Also, that tube is way too big for the rocket.

From what i know about rockets...the tube is usually there to straighten out the trajectory to, you know, aim the rocket. If the walls aren't flush with the rocket...its useless.

Also, the rocket projectile should be hi res, and be similar to the halo 3 rocket.
Hunter, it looks like you're going for a redesign of the entire thing. I think it's best if you stick with the two-tube cartridge from the original design, so it at least resembles Halo, but work out a plausible mechanism to make it spin, and add a few design tweaks here and there.
WoL likes the idea of having old rocket launcher designs in the mod. I will post afew designs on the other thread.

It's gas-operated, not gas-powered. Every modern assault rifle and its mother is gas-operated. Paintball guns, BB guns and gas replicas for reenactment groups are gas-powered.
All gas-operated means is that expanding gases are drawn out of the barrel as the bullet passes through and used to push a piston back, and as the piston is connected to the bolt it pushes that back, too. The gas comes from the exploding powder and has squat to do with firing the round, only cycling the action for the next shot.

...Except for the M16, whos major pitfall is the lack of a gas piston. Instead, its gas tube directly uses gas to cycle the bolt.
Also, the Sturmgewehr and other early style assault rifles used blowback. This was because early designers weren't certain the gas systems would work with the short barrels. Also, there was the fact that very few countries and developers were used to a gas system, while every SMG available at the time was either recoil operated or blowback operated.
By the way, very impressive textures on the cave. The shiny-ness helps :P

I made other topic to save clogging up this one with the weapons. Anyway, WoL. Do you want to use the origional idea but instead of having the whole thing rotating there could be an other cylinder inthe middle which rotates. And the normal outer cylinder could just be protection. Then it looks the same but works differently. Personally I like it how it is, but its up top you WoL. What do you want to do?
