64-bit patch (PC only) released-ish

Hi all,

Last night I decided to sit down and fix the problem where 64-bit machines with >4GB of RAM complained that you have 0 RAM. That was easy. Then when I tried to test the fix, I discovered the compat problem with the recent IE security fixes, and saw the threads here suggesting that people uninstall them.

That's no good, right?

So I put together a fix for that, too. I'd like you guys to try it out on your various systems and make sure that (a) it fixes those problems, if you had them , and (b) doesn't cause any new ones.

NOTE!!!!!!
This will *not* have any impact on gameplay. All the changes are finished happening before the MGS logo movie even plays! Every time there's a patch, there are always a few people whose internet connections happen to get flaky that day, and they assume there's a correlation. This patch won't change the game. It's your imagination. Really.

This patch is only for HaloPC, not for CE yet. If a little time passes and no one can convince me that the patch is buggy, I'll port the changes over to CE and release both.

This version will network with 1.08 in the same game, it doesn't break compat.

Try it out, reinstall your missing IE patches, and post your results here. If anyone is still running Win98SE (gasp!) let me know if it works as well as previous versions.

I love that guy. That's very nice of him.

Only thing I would suggest is that he doesn't call it the "1.09 patch" because it has absolutely no effect on the version number. Just call it the Windows 64-bit patch.

that's pretty cool for the IE security patch, as for the 0mb of ram that's not too much of an issue since the game still worked.

I haven't installed Halo PC in years, so I won't be testing until it comes out for CE... And it seems that by then it'll be finalized.

Either way, I'm expecting that Sawnose has some very interesting things up his sleeve... In the past month he told us how to officially enable AF and now this, in combination with the remark about Halo PC CD-Keys... Perhaps we're moving closer to open source or something of that sort? I'm not getting my hopes up though, that always ends in disaster.

I have not come across this error and I am running Windows 7 64 bit :S I am guessing it does not happen on everyone?

Maybe because you don't have more than 4gb of RAM installed?

So, if I were to get this 1.09 update, does that mean I can't play with the people that hav 1.08?

This also fixes the problem with recent IE updates. So it's more then just a 64-bit fix.

It's not even that big of a deal though. All you have to do is check the box and press continue, there's no errors ingame for me.

I remember getting that error but I just checked the box and ignored it. Even for people with the problem I don't think it's worth updating.

This is mainly for the people with not being able to play the game because of the IE security update. This patch should fix that problem.

Hopefully he releases a server patch as well, the Official Yoyorast Server PARIS was suffering from IE Security Patch failure.

Who the fuck still uses IE anyways?

Anyone want to report back to say if current apps work on Halo PC "1.09"?

I have no plans to update OS's code for yet another fucking patch thats just for 64-bit fixes. Maybe when I switch to 64-bit machines, but that won't be until mid-next year.

Probably because it isn't his place to comment on those sort of things. While he does provide technical support via fixing these game breaking problems, it isn't his place to comment on or implement a new feature (even if it was in the beta)

jcap, I'm pretty sure the relations Bungie had with Hired Gun in terms of H2V development was done at a very high level and through Microsoft, which would again be the case of any possible PC port for Halo 3. While it would be great if Bungie did the ports themselves, to avoid all the associated chain of command problems and such when using a 3rd party, they have other projects they're committed to.

It fixes this error as well as the 64-bit message.
"Cannot allocate required memory. Some other application has loaded where halo needs to be located."
The only way to fix it was to uninstall an Internet Explorer Update.

The 1.09 will also include a patch against the 1.08 "multiple haloloop attacks" exploit.

Why would someone use a 64bit operating system if they used that small amount of ram?
32bit os have a limit around 3.75Gb's where as 64Bit have around 128Gb's.

64-bit allows up to 17.2 billion gigabytes mister. 32-bit allows up to 4GB, but under Windows it is recommended to not go below 1GB of reserved kernel memory (leaving 3GB for applications)

And then there's PAE, giving you 64GB when properly implemented (ie, Linux is good, but BSD doesn't have full support and OS X only does 32GB, and only datacenter versions of Windows 32-bit support PAE properly)...

Glad to see Sawnose is still doing small patches for HPC. I wasn't surprised to see Modacity members chiming in with their thoughts on the whole deal.

For my 64 bit pc, console doesn't work, the resolution is locked at 1024x768, and it tears ALL OVER no matter what I do.

E: All my tearing and artifacts are fixed, my resolution it no longer locked at 1024x768 (now OTHER resolutions including 1440x990 show up in options), and now console works fine. :neckbeard:

Korn still hasn't finished the updates to Open Sauce quite yet. I think he'll be patching it up when the official 1.09 is released(?)

Halo CE is in its last day's now so if i were them i would want as many players in my servers as possible not because im a pirate, far from it but because i would you know...players using my servers.

When my opinion is lawful and morally correct and can put words into those peoples mouths who are illegally pirating the game. They sacrificed their right to an opinion as soon as they pirated the game.

Also, Halo CE will never be on its "last days"... It's going to be one of those abandonware games that hangs around for decades.

Everyone is entitled to a opinion wherther you agree with it or not.
The server owners for all you know may have purchased legal copies of the video game they are hosting servers before, just because there is a chance that pirates may play on said servers doe's not give you the right to say they do not have a opinion.

$800 debt, where do you get your figures? And they aren't in debt, I am.

Pirates are illegally playing the game, they are the ones at fault not me. The only reason you would possibly want to defend there actions is that you yourself are a pirate. I don't give a shit about pirates opinions, they're breaking the law, end of story.

Therefore there opinions are null and void.

Also, the 1.09 patch might include some more anti-piracy stuff. No details because Sawnose didn't really tell me what he was going to do.

People who pirate a 7 year old game are of no consequence to me in all honesty.
I would take a photo of my CD for halo but it happens that i lost both copies yet again.
I do how ever love how you accuse me of being a pirate though really that is amusing.
