Hi. I'm sure most of you know who I am. I've been with you guys since Halomods/Gearbox. Changed names here and there but, anyway. With the community slowly vanishing, I wanted to make this thread to show good memories of Halo, how it progressed, etc. Please Post Any videos you want to share! This can be any Halo CE videos, Halo 2, Halo 3, whatever. Anything that gave us a fun experience, and made the series what it was. I will start by making a simple timeline.

Cool thread. Not sure if I ever actually saw the original Halo trailer. That's pretty neat.

Ah yes, those days of the active camo not being rendered properly.
Come to think of it, I should try it out sometime on my modern nvidia card.

Not just camo, Nvidia cards have had issues with massive frame drops when decals are enabled and I've personally experienced flickering interiors in Campaign.

Which is additionally funny because Stubbs The Zombie basically can only run on nvidia cards on the PC. But I blame their use of MacDX (you code with DirectX APIs, but it translates them into OpenGL calls), even on the PC, for that.

So apparently, Gamespy has been pulling the plug on the multiplayer servers for several older games since being bought out. I'm hoping Halo CE is not one of the next games to be axed.

Not really. That card only had support for DirectX 7. PC lauched in the DX9c era.

nVidia's problems were with how they handled the shader model structure differently.
can't be funny if it flat out doesn't meet minimum specs.

But I'm not talking about the Geforce 2, I'm talking about ALL nvidia cards. Even today my GTX 570 has problems running Halo properly. I mentioned interior flickering already, and there's some micro stutter too.

Re: Remembering the game this Community Grew Upon..
Fun times, Zanzibar was really memorable and probably my favorite Halo 2 (and CE mod) map to date.
I still get friends over every now and then to play 4-way zanzibar splitscreen, on the original black Xbox 1 too :)
fuck it, I want a Halo 2 anniversary remake with a complete remake of the original multiplayer experience too, not simply porting maps to run on the engine of a newer Halo - my main criticism of the halo 1 anniversary. I still bought anniversary anyway and leeched off a friend's 14-day XBL gold voucher to play the entire campaign in online coop from start to finish. Great times.
which brings me to another rant - these days when a game comes with a single player campaign and a coop mode, the coop mode is separate with a loose connection to the campaign and no badass cutscenes and forced objectives that cannot function without a 2nd player. Sometimes, this strategy is necessary (i.e. splinter cell), but in other linear shooter games (i.e. spec ops the line or even COD), I'd much rather play the same single player campaign with a carbon copy of the main protagonist thrown in, and have the carbon copy disappear for cutscenes. Or if every mission has unkillable teammate(s) following you, just have the other player take control of one of them.
tldr - Halo's way of incorporating coop is awesome and I wish more games did it that way. Who cares that a second master Chief can be too cheap or that it "doesn't make sense" for the second MC to disappear in a cutscene. It's fun!

I'm really glad you posted that video. Not only was it good, but it brought back a lot of pleasant memories with my working on a lot of those (like Quagmire and Oasis) for a now dead Singleplayer Project that would celebrate the community-made maps by connecting them in a Marathon-like fashion (Terminals would teleport you to each map after you completed the objectives).

Thanks, glad you liked it. But holy mother of god I just watched it myself and realized that the audio is off by one or two frames. *twitch* Youtube I hate you. I may have to reupload that. Again.
EDIT: CRISIS AVERTED. HAS BEEN REUPLOADED. LINK ABOVE IS NOW FIXED.

Yeah Youtube does that. I recently did a music video for school and it offset some sections with a bit of lag. It's irritating, but then again it wasn't a WMV or a preferable compression for Youtube. Still though, kind of annoying, especially when Youtube says it can do stuff to help and you know it really won't.

For those who don't know, every time breaking benjamin played a show live, Blow Me Away always featured Halo footage(if a screen was present).

Can't believe it's been 9 years already, I was only 12 when my dad bought the game for me. good times. Since then my family has gotten a divorce, I completed 6 more years of school, went to college, had 5 jobs and moved out with my GF, where the fuck does time go?

Man, I spent way too much time trying to make the best content that nobody even wanted to play, and way too little time actually enjoying this game. Not to mention that shit was far from "best".
I just realized my experience modding Halo kind of turned me off of modding anywhere else, and once I stopped I never picked it back up again. Never really played with any of you guys either. This is making me sad :saddowns:

What lol I learned so much while modding that I don't even care no one ever got to not play my content xD
How a game engine works, Programming, 3ds max, Photoshop(!!! I use it almost daily)...somebody I used to mod with presented in his job interview at a programming company his stuff he did for Halo and they were heavily impressed :D not the actual visual representation but the knowledge of reversing etc.
oh and this forum kept practicing my English (at least most of the time :P), received the newest Tech info and learned about people who actually believe they need a gun to protect themselves from their government or if everyone owns a gun they are less likely to get shot.

True DAT. Half the stuff i've done for halo never actually got released. (it was junk) But i've learned so MUCH not only about modding, but also the world as you mention. I've learned Visual Studio, and 3DS max, the general idea of the processes of a pipeline for the production of content for games and 3-Dimensional entertainment, it's been crazy.

That's a good point. I did learn a lot that I still use today. I just feel like I missed the point of a game when I don't really even have any memories of playing it, just modding it. It kind of kills my enthusiasm to mod if nobody is going to do anything with it, even if I am learning.

For anyone who was interested in the Halo 2 E3 2003 Demo (like myself), I'm just going to leave this here:
I'm not sure if this was posted before but a member on the neogaf forums made a really in-depth post about the history\outcome of the legendary Halo 2 Demo in 2003 that never came to be. It's a great read, lots of cool stuff I never knew. There is also multiple different videos of Joe playing through the demo.
