Its more likely that halo 2 was developed and tested on XP, then within the last months of development, ways were implemented to ensure it would run on vista only.

Yes and no; I believe that the core coding was started on XP, yes, as I think that no version ready for testing was out even internally. Then, theoretically, they moved over to Vista, and worked with that to learn how they could learn get the software to work with the OS's overhead (*snicker*), and Windows LIVE libraries and such ().

well if you haven't heard MS is already coming out with a brand new service pack already! that means that vista wasnt even meant to go out on the market until atleast 4-6 months after its release in the end of january.

Guys, XP wasn't supposed to come out for a year after it was made, I mean, that's when SP1 was released for it! Service packs ALWAYS mean that an operating system was rushed and released early! :v
