I suggest using, as that guy said, Kirks tutorials but also try to work things out for yourself too you'll learn a lot faster if you're not following in somebody's shadow so to say. You'll also learn your own mapping technique and such
Tatical, your previous post has nothing to do with Halo 2 Vista, really. Halo 2 Vista is quite simple to make maps for, and perhaps my main choice for creating maps.
Later on, when tools are released, making new content for Halo 2 Vista will actually be quite easy. I think you missed the whole point of a suggestion. He just wanted to know how he could start using 3ds max 8, and start making maps for halo 2.
well you cant just do a tut, and expect to be a decent 3d artist when you did it.
shit like that takes pure practice and experience.
but ya, you would be able to deform a box, texture it, export it into a playable Map. it'd suck, but you'd know all the most very basics you need to know to be able to make a working thing.
The keyword is learn, don't get too ambitious, okay? [/mother voice]
Learning 3d basics and advanced techniques do take a bit of time and practice, but if you spend a good couple weeks at it, and set yourself on a realistic goal. You'll be able to do it.
Everyone has potential, it's whether or not you keep in mind that we all start off from the same place.
Good luck if you pursue this! It's a great experience.
