Something's broke and we can't fix it.
Project canceled.
OMG LOL JK SMILE!!! ^_^
In all seriousness here, we do have a problem, and it's a great one, nonetheless. After spending a considerable amount of time thinking about possible solutions and constantly pushing it back further and further, we cannot push it back anymore, as it is the last thing on our to-do list for completing the UI (at the moment). So, we are coming to you, the community, for a solution to this problem!
First off, you cannot add or delete items in a list, nor can you tell it not to display text (if you take out the text of the top one and there's not enough items to call arrows, you can still click that area and keep going, you just can't see it). This is where our problem arises.
List buttons each have a two sequence bitmap - unselected and selected.
Unselected was nothing. It was this way, because when the list got too big to fit the page (in this case 12), the arrows appear. When they do, the list buttons bitmap goes back to it's unselected form (the first bitmap in the sequence), and the backing for the arrow also appears.
Our UI works exactly the same, except the bitmaps have changed, and the backing for the arrow has been taken out. The problem we have is, is that in our list button the unselected bitmap isn't nothing. This means that when the arrows appear, the list buttons default back to their unselected form, giving us this:
(VERY old picture)
We can take out the list button bitmaps for the top and bottom buttons, which has worked successfully for all the menus that constantly have the arrows there, because they have so many things listed (color selection menu, edit gametype menu and map select menu). That gives us the desired result of this:
(also a very old picture)
However, when you do the same for the profile menu and there's not enough items to warrant arrows, this happens:
(another very old picture)
So, with that said, we are asking for opinions and possible solutions to this dilemma. What we expect is something larger than the size of the list item backgrounds to fit over top of them, hiding them, just showing arrows with a huge, non-obtrusive background. If you can whip a concept or something up in Photoshop, that would be wonderful, and would be a huge step, and possibly the last step, in finishing the UI. Once we come up with a viable solution, then you will finally receive another update, after months of being left in the dark.
Note: Please don't post a suggestion or your opinion unless you fully understand this situation. Thanks!
