I'm pretty sure if you look into the cockpit there's a monitor. They must have some way of getting a visual - in which case if the 'normal' driver seat of the scorpion is for driving, the optics by the driver would make sense. If a second marine is fully enclosed in the turret, then barrel mounted optics makes sense.
There appears to be a conflict of interests here - on one side there the argument of making the tank seem functional as a realistic vehicle (like what was said about the railings at the rear having no real reason for being there) and on the other hand is the argument that it has to be an attractive looking vehicle. Personally I think either way looks good, as long as it looks like a scorpion and isn't too outrageous in visual design, then I'm happy with it. Either way it already looks like a beautiful model and I have no personal complaints with the appearance of it.
I read somewhere it was originally called the 'UNSC Shield Ship' by Bungie before it was scrapped.
Also officially, in Halo Wars the ships that dock at UNSC supply pads are Albatrosses. So therefore the ships on Relic and Sandtrap is a part of the vehicle (might have been jettisoned from the main vehicle for whatever reason) or they're newer models than the ones seen in Halo Wars.

Because I care, because i'm the art director for this mod, and because it works no matter what.
Shit masters, looks like you made another enemy. (or at least, you made another enemy publicly state it)
I seriously don't know why you idiots are throwing a huge shitfight about how stupid it is to have optics or not. To the people who say "optics are stupid" heres the problem. IF THE GUN IS POINTED IN REVERSE, YOU CANT SEE SHIT WITHOUT TURRET MOUNTED OPTICS. In addition, you shouldn't bring up any arguments like the following: WHO CARES ITS JUST A GAME IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE THERE" Guess what guys, its called attention to detail, and its ESPECIALLY important in science-fiction to fortify the "impossibles" with "possibles" to help our suspension of disbelief.
I keep this topic around and let people post, add their own work, and comment, because i trust that you people will offer helpful advice to one another. Why should i keep the topic open if instead advice we get dickweeds in here who feel they need to clutter?
Let me state that once more. I keep this topic open so i can refine the mod via public advice. This works. It works so well, a modeller (BobTheGreat) helped me out greatly by modelling key scenery, even the friggin scorpion to my ideas, and then was aided by the rest of the public (IE Boba) by offering ideas. And then, masters and apparently rob say that its silly that we should try and help eachother out and then proceed to work in reverse.
What is wrong here?
Bob, i would listen to boba, because he knows what he's saying. (most of the time)
