Of everything that I don't like that they're doing, I really don't see how being an anime is specifically responsible for it, with the exception of the Samurai Elites - though the more I think about it (consider their Honor Guard armor) the less I am opposed to it.

The Arbiter armor certainly has a samurai-ish look to it. Frankly the whole Elite social structure and everything about them seems to be derived from Japanese culture. I just don't get why everyone is making a fuss, it seems to work, it's just never been visually represented. Seems like everyone has a certain image in mind as to how they want things to be rather than what is canon or what is going to be shown as canon, which is ridiculous really.
From what I've read, the Elites have a feudal society-- same as Japan during the time of the samurais. The honor guard armor has very clear samurai influence--Not sure how the Arbiter's armor fits in. Looks too metallic; if I had to make a guess of its origins I'd say forerunner but that would require some retconning as far as I know.
