I've heard that opinion before, but imo, RahXephon feels totally different than Eva. Sure, there are several story elements that are similar, but the atmosphere and characters are completely different. Maybe inspired, but not a ripoff. RahXephon seemed to have a little more poetry to it as well imo.

True, but I was speaking in terms of story elements. Of course the atmosphere is different, or the show would be panned.

I mean, all I remember it having was the 'protect the earth organization', the 'mysterious beings attacking earth', the 'teenage mecha pilot' but the biggest similarities ended there. Feel free to correct me if I'm forgetting some things, haven't watched either in awhile.

-enemies are on a very large scale and impervious to conventional weaponry, and treated as a national emergency when one shows up (Angels/Dolems)
-enemies are detected via a distinctive signature and confirmed via some lady at a control panel as they slowly approach the city, where they ultimately fight (Angels with their pattern, Dolems with their aria)
-friend turns out to be an enemy, but does not truly wish to harm the main character (kaworu = angel, hiroko = mulian)
-love quadrangle (shinji/asuka/rei/misato, ayato/haruka/megumi/hiroko)

I'm sure there are more, but it's been a while since i watched it.

RahXephon is okay, but it's basically 90% evangelion ripoff, and I mean that in the most literal sense possible. They didn't even try to hide it.

I remember way back when G4 would show anime, they aired RahXephon. I never really memorized the name (darn animes and your confusing naming system), so when they canceled their anime timeslot, I was unable to see the rest of the series.

Just watched EVA 1.0. I like the changes they made in the designs of some things. In particular, the angel Ramiel. It seems more bizarre this time around, more like a sentient being and less like a machine.

watching cowboy bebop, got damn. also, noticed the voice actor for faye is the same as haruhi in the eng dub. as well as spike being tom toonami. awesome
