    am Gmod noob, halp

So I just got gmod and I've been toying around with it. Its a lot of fun, but im wondering how people get the left 4 dead characters and such. All I have is the half life crew and tf2 ragdolls, despite having l4d2 installed. I thought that it would give me the characters to any game I owned. Halp?

Also im looking for a cat ragdoll. I know I've seen them in youtube videos, but I dont know where its located or if it comes with default stuff.

Left 4 Dead model pack (I'm guessing the model's arn't automatically included in your spawn menu's because L4D runs on a different engine to Gmod, I'm basing that guess over the fact that TF2 and Portal props weren't nativly accesible in Gmod untill the OB update in.. late 07? that or early 08).

Or if you wanted L4D2 Characters/zombies (meant for use with the demo but I assume it works fine with the full game vOv) or items.

Always remember to search www.garrysmod.org for gmod stuff

The main addon's a lot of servers use are PHX (phoenix-storms) and WireMod.

Once you learn how to use Tortoise SVN you can update/download the latest versions of the addons.

    SVN Links
WireMod (Make sure to download Correctly) - https://wiremod.svn.sourceforge.net/...wiremod/trunk/

    PHX - https://phoenix-storms.svn.sourcefor...hoenix-storms/

Have fun, you don't need too much else if you're just wanting to do some sandbox / build. Also I PM'd you my steam name, add me and I can help with any questions.

SVN's should work themselves out. If you download an add on from garrysmod.org though, you'll have to extract the files to your steam/steamapps/*username/garrysmod/garrysmod/addons folder. Most downloads will come with instructions anyway.

    For Tortoise SVN:
    Get it here.
Create your addon's folder (I've never done this with GMOD, so you may have to do something else for this)
    Right click -> SVN Checkout
Put the addon's SVN repository link in as the URL
If it requests for username/password or anything, use whatever the addon tells you (it should be listed somewhere)

And you should be done. I've only used this for some Comp Sci projects but the basic idea should be the same. When in doubt, see if the mod author has any special instructions.

Instead of using SVN you can download the PHX, Wiremod and other packages from http://glua.net/downloads.php

they might get noticeably out of date after a while - since apparently the models are updated often enough to warrant a SVN system - but I've been using the same package from like a year ago and not noticed many errors with models. I also never really play GMod though so heh,

DEE forced me to purchase this game as well and then wouldn't help me when nothing will spawn and everything is borked.
