    Previously released for Halo 2 on the original XBox, Desolation is a remake of Derelict from Halo CE.

    Once a scientific outpost, this Derelict Forerunner facility waits patiently to be reactivated.

    I had to replace the two gravity lifts with teleporters, not the worst idea as this mimics the original
    map Derelict.

    The holo-displays could look better but they where not easy to reconstruct.

    I decided to use Ascension's sky.

    I removed the hanging vines as they were causing odd shadows that I could not get rid of.

    A version of Desolation featuring some CE weapons.




    The Black CE Pistol provides 13 points of damage per shot (compared to the originals 25 damage points). Mind, it is still headshot capable and cannot be dual wielded. The Pistol still has great range (and zoom) while the AR will usually win against the Pistol in a close quarters battle. To me, that is a great balance.

    All SMGs have been replaced with ARs and I left many of the original weapons on the map, so if you do not care for an AR, you can still pick up a Battle Rifle. What this means is that the game will play out differently then the first release because not everyone will be relying solely a BR or SMG.

    This is a nice idea and I can see you put a lot of effort into it, but why would you want to recreate the worst map from H2X on H2V?

    Also, isn't there some flag in the shaders so that you can make something not cast shadows?

    Yes supposedly this flag '=', but I tried it and it still had those shitty squarish shadows. I thought it had something to do with the missing bump map, so I supplied that and changed the shader but still no dice which was odd because the other vegetation (with similar or identical settings) looked fine and yes the alpha seems fine to me.

    I plan on releasing the source for all my H2V work so that it will be easier for those who want to work on the same content. Perhaps someone else will improve where I leave off.

    My friend Scrappy is learning some basic Max by porting Derelict, I prefer this map to Derelict...but my issue with both of 'em is there is precious little cover.

    LOL, Scrappy's first attempt was too small so he labeled it mini-Derelict, I had not been on the map in years so when we played it it felt like I had grown up and the map had not...we appeared as giants, or just big kids. Never too old to act young.

    Have to disagree with you there, Tombstone was an excellent remake. Even with different weapon set and basically no fall damage it was an awesome map in its day, especially on CTF.
