Yea I'm not really a fan of UEFI either, never had issues with the regular old BIOS menus. I'm glad they include them since I'd rather use that then UEFI.
Its entire existence is based around giving software vendors (like Microsoft) the ability to lock down hardware at the firmware level. It's an infection lying dormant, waiting to be sprung on us when the time is right, i.e. when Microsoft finally kills off the traditional home PC (which is actually what Windows 8 is all about starting).
