The powerup orbs look incredible, but the battle rifle in the vid looks horrid to me. The skin looks really low res, but I suppose thats what happens when you take a texture from a new engine that doesn't require high res, and put it into an old engine with inferior shader capabilities.
The battle rifle is not the point. Please refrain from commenting on it.
those clouds in the middle are kinda just randomly appearing, instead of expanding and swirling from the center like they should.
I actually like that BR a lot. I doubt this will be open sourced, but if it does somehow become it, I can easily see people using it in the future. Anyways, the overshield looks amazing. Great job.

BSP may or may not be open sourced. If everything comes out the way I want to, then it will not be released. If it doesn't then most likely. Con has already stated the textures will be released. More progress tomorrow.
This was a test to see if I could get a 3rd person camera without an external program. It worked :). You can probably expect 3rd person turrets in the halo 3 version of the mod.
Warning: this image is not posted for critical analysis, just to show you what's in store. I'm aware of the flaws and already know how to fix them.
I'm actually not surprised it worked. I saw something for camera angle when I was checking out the tags for the spartans a few months back.
One question though. Why is there the arrow above the reticule like there would be in a warthog?
I don't know how you think im doing this, but it's not what you're thinking. The method used is a dummy masterchief biped with a third person seat. The game doesn't allow you to enter/exit the biped pressing the 'E' key, so I scripted the game to load the player into the seat when he presses 'q'. When you press 'q' again, you'll exit the seat. The reason the warthog reticule is there is because it uses the warthog user interface.

I was hoping to get it exact, down to the last decal. And yes we have jackal ones too. We even have the camera that tracks player movement. Transport hogs and pelicans i believe will be ripped, just for the sake of saving time.

Not a whole lot left to do really. Skybox model (hanger model), finish sword room, few textures, and scenery.
I assume once you got those grate thingies done, it was mostly textures?

Point of this is to be an exact map replica. I want the bsp to be as close as possible. It's a "because I can" sort of thing...or a pride booster :p. Pelican's will be there, transport hogs, mountains, flying birds. I'd like to have this done by christmas, but realistically we're lookin at February.
Have you put thought into another level? I'm just wondering because I would like to see how well you can do other levels. This looks great by the way. I'm impressed. The last picture makes it look like you extracted everything straight from Halo 3. Nice job!

just use like a "step teleporter" that makes it looks like u get thrown into the air, then u end up reletively where you would in the air in halo3 and can "move" through the air still from the top. It shouldn't lag, but there'd be issues with multiple players possibly.. it'll also look a lil strange, but relatively no lag... i dont think i never really tried it before, just a thought i always had after I was fukin around in spark edit long long ago (hpc) and linked teleporters through the air, fun stuff.
Otherwise you can use the "force" method too but that'l be laggy anyway.
Or ask jahrain how he did his cronopolis lifts, they were amazing, but they too lagged and were only in one of the betas. These are small lifts tho so that method could work with less problems.

Sometimes, it's better to make the map a little different, but with seamless gameplay, rather then use some laggy method to make it the same.
If we can't come up with a plan to pull them off using OS, then it'll probably just be teleporters. But its up to peng.
EDIT: There's a few things in the halo 1 engine we can use to simulate the effect, it's just a matter of finding a way to implement them. (No, I'm not talking about the damage_effect method.)
Jahrain used projectiles that did no damage iirc, but they lagged due to the sheer amount of them.

Im curious about the sword too though. It's a fairly vital part of the pit's game play (sword camping ftw) so I hope zteam has something up their sleeves to make it work well. Without lunge, it could work just fine but with CE's crappy netcode it would be far from the real deal, and almost completely ineffective. A shotgun would work well in the same place, but that just wouldn't be as cool. I don't know, but whatever. I'm very interested in this project.
I think a few scores of posts back it was stated that the Flamethrower would be located in the Ops Center in the classic version.

The flame thrower will most likely replace the sword in all versions.
Told ya so. Good design choice there, Pengy. Maybe if you could up it's range or make the flames sticky (much like H3's version), or some other augment to make it a tad bit more coveted.

I'd say we're doing pretty damn good for a bunch of 13-16 year olds and one 35 year old who haven't been doing this for long.
Comparing people doesn't make anybody feel good. It just builds egos and makes others less likely to create content. You think H3MT sucks, well then don't play the maps. :) Not like we care who does and doesn't. We're taking our sweet time to bring cool stuff to the community. Tearing people down is NOT going to help the CE community grow at all.

I think you might want to make vehicles that are outside, actual vehicles that are undrivable and located on a death plane. Also I would be happy to make the sky, if someone could get me refs

I found the spiker to be pretty good. Easier for me to aim with the leading.
A problem is, is how some textures just seem brighter than others, and dont blend well together. Also isnt the ground brighter pale stone than the dark green one, or is it the lightmaps?
