The chaingun is already there. The barrel length should stay the same. If it's longer, it would be easier to make a tank "ramp" to get say a flag carrier into a spot he shouldn't be. I've done it before, man.

Extend the model, don't extend the collision geometry?

Unless you're looking to have collision data be 100% accurate.
