Pretty much this. If you want to absolutely capitalise off of something which seems to have already passed its peak, just make an anime series based off of it. You'll be making money hand-over-fist from all the kids who think watching shitty anime makes them somehow Japanese. Make it into a western cartoon, and nobody will give a fuck.

Anime is a marketing gimmick to reel in pseudo-Japan-o-philes. It is, in it's simplest definition, shitty animation. This looks like goddamn Pokemon, for Christ's sake.
