Oh fuck I think I screwed up. Max 8 is not Max 2008, right?
Ugh you wanted us to put it as Max 9 mother fuck I saw the 8 and said "YEAH THAT ONE."
Weird seeing so many people with Max 2014/2015. I really don't see much of a difference after 2012 with things really.

Max 8 on a perpetual license since 2008 or so.
Max 2012 on a Student license I have from 2014-2017.

A lot of us have student licenses. There's no reason not to upgrade when we can get a new 3 year license every year for free.

2014 in my experience handles high poly models a lot better than 2012. That's the biggest reason I've been using it. But yeah, being on a student license pretty much lets us upgrade any time.

Max's 2k series brought about a wave of huge stability fixes to get things like Graphite working. Since then, there's not as much of a stability increase over, say, Max 6 -> 7. The glorious workingness of Max 8 is found in all the 2k versions, except say the first one. Unless you see some new feature you want (such as python in 2015), it's not a high priority as it once was. If you've got it, yeah there's no reason but then again there's no reason to immediately grab new versions; especially when add-ons/plugins are done through the SDK and need to be compiled on the new version's SDK.

    Re: 3ds max poll

The biggest immediate reason to grab 2k14 is that you can use C# to interface with their sdk (they've licensed a wrapper from ephere). I was going to make an exporter for JMS's using my C# JMS classes from 3+ years ago, but like in typical autodesk fashion they suck with their documentation. Thus, I am using 3ds max 9 but I also have access to 2014.

I use 3ds Max Design 2013 for CMT work, but I think I have 2012 as well. Both are perpetual licenses. I haven't bothered with 2014, but if the uv unwrapping really is broken then I might not worry about it.

2015 integrated Python support, I believe.
Didn't know about the c# bit. Link to what 'little' docs there are?
